What does KRG do?

The Kativik Regional Government was created in 1978 under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to deliver public services to Nunavimmiut. Its responsibilities come from the Kativik Act and mandates delegated by municipalities and the Québec government.

KRG provides regional services and technical support to the 14 Northern Villages. Its work touches many parts of everyday life:

  • Airports, marine infrastructure, municipal infrastructure and drinking-water monitoring.
  • Employment, training, income support, economic and business development.
  • Childcare, sports and recreation.
  • Policing, civil security and assistance for crime victims.
  • Support for Inuit harvesting, wildlife conservation, environmental work and climate research.
  • Park development and management, and internet access through Tamaani.

KRG also helps Northern Villages with municipal management and accounting, land-use planning, legal affairs, engineering and public transit. Your Northern Village office remains the starting point for local service arrangements and notices.
